Comparison · Updated June 2026

Wonder vs DoorDash, with the actual numbers.

If you live in the Wonder coverage area (Northeast US, mostly), Wonder is meaningfully different from DoorDash. Different model, different speed, different fee structure. Here's how the two actually compare on the things that matter.

The short version

If you're inside Wonder's zone, it usually wins.

Wonder is a vertically integrated kitchen network. It owns the kitchens, employs (or contracts) the couriers, and licenses menus from chef partners and restaurants. When you order Bobby Flay burgers from Wonder, the burger is cooked in Wonder's kitchen by Wonder staff, then delivered by a Wonder courier from the same building.

DoorDash is a marketplace. It contracts with restaurants who cook the food in their own kitchens, then dispatches a Dasher to pick up the bag and drive it to you. The food is made by the restaurant, not by DoorDash.

Those two models lead to different outcomes on price, speed, and experience. The comparison below is based on real orders placed during a typical week in June 2026 from a Hoboken, NJ address with both apps. Your numbers will vary, but the patterns hold.

The breakdown

Side by side on the things you actually care about.

Delivery fee

Wonder: $0. Free delivery on every order, no minimum, no membership required.
DoorDash: $1.99-$5.99 typically, plus a "service fee" of about 15% of the subtotal. DashPass ($9.99/mo) waives delivery fees on orders over $12 from participating restaurants but doesn't remove the service fee.

Speed

Wonder: usually 20-30 minutes. Because Wonder's couriers leave from the same building where the food is cooked, there's no "courier picks up bag from restaurant" step. The handoff happens internally.
DoorDash: usually 35-60 minutes. The Dasher has to drive to the restaurant first, wait for the food, then drive to you. Restaurant prep time is variable; busy nights can push this past an hour.

Menu prices

Wonder: same as the menu. A $14 burger costs $14.
DoorDash: typically marked up 10-20% above the in-restaurant price. Restaurants raise their delivery menus to offset DoorDash's commission. A $14 burger often shows up as $16-$17 on DoorDash.

Restaurant selection

Wonder: limited but curated. Each Wonder kitchen offers maybe 15-25 restaurant partners, including high-profile chef collaborations (Bobby Flay, José Andrés, Marcus Samuelsson, Michael Symon) and licensed menus from real institutions like Di Fara Pizza and SriPraPhai Thai.
DoorDash: enormous but uneven. Tens of thousands of restaurants on the platform across most of the US. Quality varies wildly, and many restaurants on DoorDash are ghost kitchens with no physical location you'd ever visit.

Geographic coverage

Wonder: Northeast US only. NY, NJ, MA, PA, MD, DC, VA, CT, RI, DE. About 120 active kitchens. If you live outside that zone, Wonder isn't an option.
DoorDash: nearly nationwide. Available in most major US cities and many smaller ones. If you live anywhere with restaurants, DoorDash is probably an option.

Multi-restaurant orders

Wonder: built in. You can mix dishes from different restaurants in a single cart. One delivery, one fee ($0). This is the single most distinctive Wonder feature.
DoorDash: mostly no. Each restaurant is a separate order with its own fees and its own Dasher. DoorDash's "DoubleDash" feature lets you add a second restaurant to an existing order if it's near the route, but it's not the default and not always available.

New customer discount

Wonder: $30 off your first two orders with code ALMA465 ($15 off each). Applies automatically when you click this link.
DoorDash: variable. First-order discounts come and go (typically 25-40% off your first order, capped at $10-15). DashPass sometimes includes a free trial.

When DoorDash wins

DoorDash is genuinely better in some cases.

This is supposed to be an honest comparison. There are situations where DoorDash is the right call:

You want a specific restaurant Wonder doesn't have. Wonder's menu is curated to about 15-25 partners per kitchen. If you specifically want Chipotle, your local pizza place, or any restaurant Wonder hasn't licensed, DoorDash is your only option.

You're outside Wonder's coverage area. Wonder operates in the Northeast US only. If you're in Chicago, LA, Atlanta, or anywhere else, Wonder isn't available. DoorDash works almost everywhere.

You want grocery, alcohol, or non-food delivery. DoorDash delivers from drugstores, supermarkets, liquor stores, and convenience stores. Wonder does food only.

You're already a heavy DashPass user. If you're paying $9.99/month for DashPass and already have favorite restaurants on it, the math gets closer to even.

The verdict

For Northeast residents, Wonder beats DoorDash on most weeknight orders.

Lower fees, faster delivery, no menu markup, and the multi-restaurant-cart feature is genuinely useful. The downside is the smaller restaurant selection and the smaller geographic coverage. If your favorite restaurant isn't a Wonder partner, that's a real tradeoff.

For most Northeast US residents who order food a few times a week from chain or chef-partner restaurants, Wonder will deliver more food faster for less money. That's the practical case.

If you want to try Wonder, code ALMA465 takes $15 off your first order and another $15 off your second, for $30 total. The code applies automatically when you click this link. New customers only. Verified June 9, 2026.
